Heavenly Scent Soap was established in 2018 as a result of an unique partnership between the East Texas Baptist University Enactus team and the local Community Healthcore in Marshall, Texas. Enactus is a community of student, academic, and business leaders dedicated to using the power of entrepreneurial action to better people’s lives. The ETBU Enactus team saw an opportunity to partner with the Community Healthcore, a mental health and intellectual disability governing authority, to help provide work opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in our community.
The ETBU Enactus team now partners with adults with IDD to help instruct individuals how to produce and package various soaps made with all-natural, creamy goat's milk. During the early stages of the partnership, a group of individuals with IDD decided on the new company name "Heavenly Scent Soap." Adults involved with this handmade soap company have spoken about a new-found sense of empowerment and excitement in their lives as they achieve personal life goals.
Outside of working with individuals with IDD to hand-make all-natural soaps, members of ETBU Enactus also help market campaigns, provide project management, encourage business development and manage website design. This partnership has provided adults with IDD the opportunity to learn appropriate job skills while earning their own income by producing high-quality soap for the local community and beyond.
